REEDY CREEK TECHNOLOGIES AND UBICOM TO WORK TOGETHER
TO GROW NEW MARKET IN SMART DEVICE MANAGEMENT
Enabling millions of connected devices to be easily managed
Mountain View, CA and Research Triangle Region, North Carolina - April 5, 2001 - Reedy Creek Technologies, Inc., developers of software technology for information exchange, instruction delivery, and remote device management and control, and Ubicom, Inc., the leading supplier of Internet Processors and networking software, today announced that they will work together to expand opportunities in large scale distributed device networks.
Reedy Creek software technology, when combined with the Ubicom Internet Processor platform, provides a device management solution for original equipment manufacturers. Reedy Creek will take advantage of the programmability of the Internet Processor, using the chip to carry its own Command & Control Internet Transport (CCIT) software.
Potential applications, range from embedded systems to vending machines to industrial automation. One of the newest applications is for built-in color display that promotes interaction with end-users, changing and updating the message as needed. Today these devices include gasoline dispensers, cashless vending machines, information kiosks, and even home appliances.
"Looking ahead to the millions of intelligent devices to be connected, device management is crucial for the success of large-scale distributed communications," said Stephan Thaler, Vice President of Marketing at Ubicom. "We're pleased to work with such innovators as Reedy Creek Technologies to provide solutions for their customers."
Reedy Creek's CCIT technology leverages standard e-mail processes to perform a variety of tasks including sending commands and receiving information from remote devices and embedding content. CCIT works in device specific information exchange and instruction delivery. The system enables device managers to interact securely and independently with servers or directly with widely dispersed smart devices. For example CCIT is ideal for applications ranging from home-appliance self-diagnosis to compiling profiles of device usage such as time-of-use or type-of-use.
"This technology has been validated with our CCIT-based web content management solution called Real-time Page Management (RPM)â which has been in use for over two years by companies such as Motorola, DuPont, Sun Microsystems, Marconi, the US Navy, and others," said Neal Davis, President of Reedy Creek Technologies. "CCIT can be easily deployed in conjunction with Ubicom's SX Series communications controllers and IP2022 Internet Processors. We look forward to working with Ubicom to develop this growing market."
Ubicom's hardware and software products are highly programmable chips and pre-built software modules. The chips are delivery platforms that consist of a powerful, deterministic processing engine and a field of extremely fast flash memory. A software "personality," such as Ubicom's networking protocols or CCIT, is electronically programmed into the flash memory to configure the chip for an application.
